Congratulations to Eli Manning for getting the piano off his back. It took a Super Bowl win for Steve Young to get the weight of Joe Montana's multiple rings off his back, but Eli got Peyton's weight off, just by taking the Giants further than the Colts this year. A Super Bowl win will have to be in Eli's future, but for now, a conference championship appearance is satisfactory--which is why the New York Football Giants will surely lose this weekend in Green Bay.
On the AFC side, the Patriots have been anointed since September and there ain't no way the Chargers are going to slay this dragon. Tom Brady's bunch are a far superior team even if San Diego was at full strength and at this point Phillip Rivers and Antonio Gates are out with injuries. It was great to see Norv Turner take an impossible situation and succeed, but the joyride ends Sunday night.

Eli Advances, Peyton Relaxes, Patriots Stand Pat
The NFL Divisional playoffs were quite entertaining and quite surprising even for the "experts" on the pre-game shows. Not too many on TV or not predicted that Eli would last longer than Peyton, but the younger Manning is "money" on the road and Lambeau is the next stop.
I am happy for Norv Turner to make it to the AFC Championship game because he is a pretty nice guy (he was the WR coach when I was in Los Angeles with the Rams), and because he took a no-win situation following the Chargers 14-2 2006 season, but after a slow start, they are playing for a chance to go to the Super Bowl.
Tony Romo took his weekend off and spent it with his buddies--and Jessica-- in Mexico, but that had nothing to do with the loss at all. Too bad they couldn't block well enough and Crayton dropped a great sidearmed throw by Romo that would have been a big play and kept the drive alive instead of a punt from deep in their own territory. The McQuarters' 36 yard punt return didn't help either.
Tom Brady was, well, Tom Brady on Saturday night. The Patriots had to play hard to take out the game Jaguars, but New England is just too sound throughout the organization. I am a David Garrard fan as well as Brady and felt bad for him, but thought Jacksonville represented themselves well and will be a team to be reckoned with for years to come.
So Brett Favre won another snowy game at home--I thought he should have hung 'em up a couple of years ago (only because he was questioning himself and if he still wanted the ball with 2 minutes left), but he sure has added to his Hall of Fame resume and his legend with this entire season. Good for him!
Brady welcomes Rivers to town--no contest--Patriots win easily.
Favre in his swan song taking on "little" Manning. It was great to see Eli win a couple playoff games and get that monkey off his back, but Brett won't lose this one with another chance at a ring hanging in the balance.
Good luck to Tony Dungy as he retires and moves back to Tampa--just a prediction, but a pretty good one I think.

Best QB's 2007
No need to wait until the final game of 2007 to say that Tom Brady is the best pro quarterback this year--hands down!
Tim Tebow won the Heisman Trophy Saturday night in New York as college football's most outstanding player, but he too was the best in '07. Colt Brennan played on an undefeated team and his team depended on him for its success just as must as the Gators depended on Tebow, maybe even more, but that doesn't make him a better football player or quarterback than Tebow.
Both Tebow and Brennan have mechanical issues when throwing the football and I can't help but conjure up the ghost of Jeff George when I watch Brennan sling the ball off his shoulder and throw without help from his back foot. Like George, he is extremely accurate and when the defense finally cheats up on all of June Jone's "run and shoot" flat routes, Colt makes them pay with deadly accurate deep balls as well. I just can't get past the second rate competition that makes up the majority of Hawaii's schedule. Tim Tebow plays in the highest level competition week in and week out in the SEC. Yes, his team lost three games, but he didn't have a terrible game in any of those to cost his team the game in any of them. Tebow needs to tighten up his delivery and tweak his own balance issues, but he is the "new breed" of "crossover" QB that can run like Larry Csonka and throw as well as the top guys in the game.

After the Patriots acquired Randy Moss, I wrote that the Patriots would win the Super Bowl. We still have to wait for that prediction to come true, but for Tebow, the question marks were big about his passing ability and I broke down his performance against inferior competition as a freshman, but noted his ability to throw was good enough to make it big and he did, becoming the first sophomore to win the coveted Heisman.

Tebow is America's Best College Football Player
The Heisman Trophy will be presented in a couple of weeks and the first sophomore in the trophy's history will win the coveted award as the nation's best football player. Tim Tebow was a man of a boy coming out of high school last year as he subbed in for Chris Leak quite regularly to pick up a third down or rush for a touchdown and even jump shoot a touchdown pass when needed. He was "Superman" in his freshman year, but could he run the show full time? I wrote an article at AmericasBestQB.com this spring when that question was swirling and noted that when he did get some playing time in a blowout victory over a small school, he proved to me that he had enough passing skill to be "thee" guy.
His team has lost three games this year and that does not usually mean you carry home the Heisman hardware at the end of the season, but with all of his TD's this year on the ground and through the air, there is really no one that can stand up to his weekly heroics.
Chase Daniel has come to national attention with his Mizzou Tigers knocking of Kansas and playing for the Big 12 title against Oklahoma, but no one really knows about this kid other than the stat sheet and box score. Tim Tebow has been on national television countless times for all voters to see. Colt Brennan at Hawaii just guided his team to an undefeated season and broke the NCAA record for TD's. He also missed three games this season and their biggest win was against Boise State, which doesn't bode well for garnering Heisman votes, nor does playing a half-dozen time zones away from America's spotlight.
Darren McFadden is the runner-up this year. He is such a talented runner that the Razorbacks made him their Tim Tebow and let him take the direct shotgun snap and run wild. He even threw a few passes in the upset over LSU on Thanksgiving!
It was a crying shame for Oregon and Dennis Dixon that his knee was injured. Their season and his Heisman chances buckled at the same time. Because Oregon was at the top of the rankings, if he stayed healthy and they continued to win, he would have been the runaway winner, but those "if"s" didn't happen and Tim Tebow is the best football player in the nation regardless of age. College football has not seen a runner/passer of his kind ever and he deserves the award this year!

Brady Bests Manning
Tom Brady took more of a beating against the Colts than he had in all eight games combined, but he and his Patriot teammates persevered until the final gun and came up victors. Manning had the game in hand, but had the ball stripped out of his hand at the wrong time and gave New England the final chance it needed to put the game away. These two teams are the best in the league, but if Dallas is hot at the right moment, they will compete from the NFC side.
I like both of these QB's and they are the best in the entire league, followed closely by Big Ben and Tony Romo and they are probably the four best teams in the NFL right now. As I have always said, "It's always about the QB".
